Economics Seminar

由於最近美國及世界的銀行金融和股票市場的危機﹐華人協會將主辦一個以目前財政危機的前因後果”為主題的座談會。我們很榮幸的請鄭仁教授來主講。 鄭教授是Wichita State University經濟系的系主任。 他將與大家分享他對現狀的見解及分析。 希望大家踴躍參加並與其他的會友共同研討我們目前面臨的這個經濟和財政的狀況。

Due to the recent financial crisis in banking and stock exchange, WCA is scheduling a seminar to discuss the subject of “Causes and Implications of the Current Financial Crisis.”  It is our honor to have Dr. Jen-Chi Cheng as seminar’s guest speaker.  Dr. Cheng is the Chair of Department of Economics at Wichita State University.  He will share with you the insight of current events.  Please don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about the crisis and share our knowledge and questions with fellow members.

28th Annual Asian Festival

The Wichita Asian Association will present its 28th Annual Asian Festival on Saturday, Oct 25th, from 5:30 to 10:00 P.M., at Century II, Convention Center. This is an opportunity to enjoy entertainment and experience cultural enrichment.

Entertainment

Cultural Events - Dances, songs and martial arts from various Asian countries. There are going to be 15 of these stage presentations.
Miss Asia Pageant - Participants from about 8 countries will participate in Miss Asia pageant. They will present their talent show in addition to being interviewed.
Special Events - Calligraphy, hand and face decoration and other unique activities will take place.

Food

29 food booths representing about 10 countries and 5 art, jewelry and garment booths will be set up. This is the only time and place Wichita gets an opportunity to taste authentic and exotic Asian food, all under one roof.

“山的記憶﹐海的呼喚”
 國立屏東教育大學原住民青年社會服務社的學生們將來美巡迴表演。威啟達將是他們抵美的第一站。這個表演的內容是以活潑動感的表演型態呈現出力與美的舞蹈。在舞蹈表演中﹐他們將傳統祭典的歌曲﹐舞蹈及儀式搬上舞台呈現在觀眾眼前。

“Memories of the Mountain, Calling of the sea”.
Dance performance brought to you by the students from National Ping Tung University of Education’s Indigenous Youth Social Service Association.  The dance troupe will be touring in United States this summer and Wichita will be their first stop.  The purpose of the tour is to promote cultural exchange through lively and powerful dance performance. In the indigenous dance performance, they will bring the songs, dance, and rituals from the traditional ceremonies on the stage.

這次的原住民表演活動是一個非常難得的機會讓我們在海外的華人欣賞台灣學生帶來的傳統文化表演。台灣的青年表演團體通常每年只有一次來美巡迴表演。許多較小的城市不容易邀請到台灣的表演團體。但是華人社會有多位熱心的朋友從去年就已積極的籌畫這項活動。所以今年我們非常榮幸的請到這個曾在前年去歐洲表演的舞蹈團來威啟達表演。我們誠心的邀請華人協會會員及朋友們來欣賞他們精采的舞蹈節目。

如果有會員願意捐款贊助這項活動﹐請與鄭仁錡教授夫人陳秀玲或何德宜醫生聯絡。

This is a very special event that will provide an opportunity for Wichita Chinese families and friends to enjoy an authentic culture performance.  The tour group from Taiwan normally visits U.S. only once every year and it requires several hardworking people in Wichita Chinese community to make this event possible.  It is an honor to have this troupe, who performed in Europe two years ago, visit Wichita.  Wichita Chinese community sincerely invites WCA member families and friends to come and enjoy this exciting performance on May 3.

Moon Festival Is Coming...

Moon festival is near.  This year’s moon festival event will be held on Saturday, September 29. 

Besides socializing and food, the main theme for this year’s moon festival will be “magic.” 

There will  be professional magic shows as well as “amateur” magic shows by the  WCA members.  Any WCA members who have any “magical” talent and would like to perform their tricks at the next moon festival event, please contact any of the WCA board members.

Chinese Acrobat Benefit Shows

A news brief in Saturday's (7/14) Wichita Eagle reported the information below.  We would like to encourage our members to show support by attending the show.  We would post further information if other actions or assisting ways are established.

From The Wichita Eagle, Local & State Area News in Brief, Saturday, July 14:

The Chinese acrobats hired to perform at the now-closed Wild West World will stage two benefit shows next week.  The shows will be at 2 and 7 pm on July 21 at the Century II Convention Hall.  Net proceeds will benefit the acrobats, who will return to China soon after the performance. Advanced tickets, at $10 for reserved floor seating and $6 for general admission, can be purchased at WichitaTix.com, by calling 316-219-4849, or by going to the Century II box office from 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday or 10 am to 2 pm Saturday.  Tickets will be $8 and $12 at the door.
